As a result of the urban regulations introduced by József Borsos, the

Big Forest quickly became the living, organic fabric of Debrecen,

inspiring a great many wealthy residents of Debrecen to have villas
built here. Residents went to the Big Forest to eat out at the Old

Vigadó restaurant and take walks, while the moneyed locals had

villas constructed in the area between the forest and the city. Several

of these buildings are still standing, including two designed by Sajó

on Simonyi Street, which are special local mementos of the holiday
08 architecture of the early 20th century. Both finely- proportioned

villas are set at the back of their street-front gardens.
