DEBRECEN STADIUM
Sajó was a keen sportsman: he fenced, played tennis
and did athletics. He became a member of the
Debrecen Gymnastics Club as a child, and as an adult
he was co-president of the Bocskai Football Club. It
is no coincidence, therefore, that he designed ‘the
world’s first earthen mound stadium’ for his native
city for free. It became a tradition that a match never
started until Sajó had taken his place in the grandstand.
On 11 March 1961 he was at a football match
10 match a moment of silence was held in tribute
when he suffered a fatal heart attack. At the next
to the memory of the sports-loving architect.
